PMA Scaffolding Ltd. needed access for one of their clients to carry out an inspection and repairs on the remote and tidal Frog Firle Bridge, Alfriston, Sussex, U.K.
There was no propulsion or skipper needed, and PMA Scaffolding were able to use their own scaffolding, so ScaffFloat shipped the floats along with a comprehensive set of instructions to construct a six-by-four-meter pontoon, and PMA Scaffolding did the rest.
The project was an example of “build-your-own” floating access. As part of package, ScaffFloat sent general arrangement drawings, a one-page build guide, side and top view plans and a pontoon spec sheet, along with bill of materials and lifting guide. A safety board was also included in the pack to ensure all the safe working guidelines were visibly documented to everyone working on the project.
“ScaffFloat is a new system to our scaffolding business,” said PMA Director Peter Manley. “After some research we felt it was the right solution to carry out our customer’s planned bridge works over the river Cuckmere. When accounting for tides and the different works being completed the pontoon was versatile and stable enough to move to various placements under the bridge itself. Overall, a great solution to a very real access problem.
“The pontoon itself was easy to assemble with the scaffolding equipment we had in stock and a small team. The communication from the initial contact to design and delivery has been excellent. We’re looking forward to using ScaffFloat again in the future.”
