Weeks finishing coastal restoration project in St. Johns County, Florida

Appeared in Marine Construction Magazine Issue III, 2024

Reading Time: 2 Minutes

For decades, Weeks Marine has played a vital role in protecting and strengthening America’s coastal zones.

At press time, the company was nearing completion of a beach renourishment project in St. Johns County, Florida, just south of Jacksonville. Weeks is placing two million cubic yards of sand along nine miles of the Ponte Vedra Beach shoreline. The project will restore storm-damaged dunes and berms and provide storm protection to upland infrastructure. This effort will also add more environmental habitats for wildlife and provide a better experience for visitors.

The newest hopper in the Weeks dredging fleet, the R.B. Weeks, is currently on the project and was joined by her sister vessel, the Magdalen, at the end of April. The Magdalen won the 2021 Safety Appreciation Award in 2021 from the Council for Dredging & Marine Construction Safety (CDMCS) for 250,000 hours without a recordable or lost-time incident.

Work is expected to be completed by the end of June 2024.

Established in 1919, Weeks specializes in five areas of the industry: marine construction, dredging, marine services, tunneling and aggregates. In 2023, the Weeks organization was acquired by Kiewit Corporation to become wholly-owned subsidiaries of Kiewit.
