For cable lifts, use a marine-grade grease to lubricate bearings and pulleys. This task should be done every six months or so. Motors and their parts should be oiled using an anti-corrosion lubricant at least twice a year, depending on use. Cables may be sprayed lubricated every so often however grease is not recommended as it has a tendency to retain moisture.

Cable Life Expectancy?

As for the life expectancy of boat lift cables some experts say that, to be safe, galvanized cable should be replaced every two years. All things being equal, stainless cable will last longer, up to twice as long.  Obviously, one should adhere to any Manufacturers suggested routine maintenance and cable recommendations.

The signs of ANY frayed and/or rusty cable lines/connections should be of immediate concern to any boat lift owner.

How much weight can a boat lift hold?

Boat lifts can range between 1,500lbs to 250,00lbs in capacity. Determine your boats wet weight which includes fuel, water, engines, batteries and anything else that you have added to the boat.

Again, one should ALWAYS refer to the Manufacturers recommended specifications as to NEVER exceed the load limitations.

Periodic Lifting during the Off Season?

One should always remember to operate ones Boat Lift occasionally during the Off-Season. Most manufacturers suggest one run a Lift a minimum of 1-2 Minutes in EACH DIRECTION at least every week or two during the offseason. Lastly, one should have a Licensed Electrician periodically check any and all electrical connections.
