Customer safety is a topic taken into consideration with each step Poseidon Barge, LTD takes when designing new products. Barge designs have been developed to accommodate removable steel handrails as part of their offerings, as well as a new accessory: the Poseidon Barge Catwalk.
The catwalks were developed at a customer request for a pathway outside the main deck for foot traffic that allowed operators to travel the length of the deck without dodging trip hazards such as: hydraulic hoses, drill shafts, or other miscellaneous items stored on the main deck. The catwalks utilize the exterior connections of the sectional barge that are not being used to attach an additional barge. This gives the walkways 500 lb of capacity per foot along the walkway for a 10 ft section.

Each catwalk has handrails installed above a steel grate floor. The steel grate floor promotes excellent gripping qualities as employees step on it, but also allows excess water to pass through the grate rather than creating a slipping hazard.

Poseidon Catwalk

The catwalks come in 10 ft lengths for the main runways. Sections measuring 13 foot in length are provided for the ends of runways where a 90 degree perimeter turn is required.
It is yet to be determined whether these items will be offered for rental use, but they are currently available for sale to fit the different connection systems that Poseidon Barge offers.

The catwalks have been met with great interest from the market and are another example of Poseidon’s dedication to offering products with customer safety in mind. Poseidon already offers embossed steel decks to provide an anti-slip working surface. The addition of aluminum oxide aggregate materials to the painted deck is also an option for new barges being purchased by the customer. The aluminum oxide is spread across the deck covered in wet paint, then sealed in with an additional coat of high grade marine top coat. This system was developed for use in conjunction with the US Coast Guard Design Center and meets their specification for a non-skid coating.

They say that every journey begins with that first step. Poseidon Barge, Ltd is out to make sure that step, as well as all others, are as safe as possible.
Poseidon Barge, Ltd is a sectional barge fabricator that rents and sells barges and accessories for the marine construction industry. Located in Berne, IN their truckable equipment is designed and manufactured in house. Poseidon performs custom work in addition to their standard product lines.
